Ring became unresponsive in middle of updating

Question

Just bought the ring. I charged fully and downloaded android app to upgrade. Had to try it a couple of times to start the upgrade and it finally started to download and verify the upgrade from firmware version 035. Few minutes into the upgrade, app says it failed and now my ring does not turn on no matter how many times I press on it. I also tried charging it there is no charging indicator light. Please help.

Hi, normally the fail is caused by Bluetooth re-connection fail before upgrade.

Please try:

1. delete your device from APK by drag it towards LEFT

2.research device by pressing + on top right

3. if device can be found again, please continue sw upgrade.

If above does not work, you have to wait for battery used up, and then recharge it.

The bluetooth re-connection fail is a bug from Bluetooth firmware which is coming from Bluetooth chipset vendor.

BTW, in fail state, Ring is still working, so it may take 8-12 hours to get battery running out.

I can confirm this as the same happened to me 2 days ago.

I initially thought that the latest update had led to some kind of hardware failure but after trying to turn the Ring on today it happened to work as intended which was a huge relief!

Although I'm happy to be able to continue using the ring as I used to, I must admit that I'm a bit bummed out about not being able to try out the newest firmware (version 42) as I was highly anticipating the addition of different scrolling speeds for my habitual webtoon and novel reads.

I'm however extremely excited to see the developpement team actively working on implementing the features that are being requested on here.
I actually feel like you guys do really care about delivering a good product and I'm extremely grateful for the time and effort you're putting in in order to do so.

Don't worry, you can try upgrading again. Just pay attention to the following points:
1. The ring battery level should not be less than 60%;
2. Do not turn off your phone's Bluetooth during the upgrade process;
3. Do not keep your phone away from the ring during the upgrade process.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I've tried updating 4 times to no avail.

The update forces the device to disconnect which in turn pretty much makes the ring fail.
You're then forced to wait until it's fully discharged before being to resume it's use.

My Ring I had no problem with firmware updates until this one (Firmware version 42).
Hopefully a fix is eventually dispatched.

It seems that location services may not be turned on for your phone.

Here are the steps::
Settings  ->  In the Search Settings box, type 'GPS', then click 'Location' displayed below -> Open "Use location"

This was in fact the issue, thanks a lot!

The new firmware is great! The pointer is now accurate which wasn't the case before, and the cycling between mouse scrolling speeds is well thought of.
I'm very pleased and I'm sure I'm not the only one sharing that sentiment, cheers!

Hi, i got my unit from Kickstarter campain. Got it and installed app on iPhone. App showed that there is a firmware upgrade available, the process bar went to the very end and app closed. Now unit is completely unresponsive (no reaction to button and does not charge). It was yesterday, so 8-12h period mentioned above passed and still nothing - what do i do?
